Marathon training update

25 January 2011 (82 days to go)

I’m beginning to wonder whether entering the London Marathon at my age (and with a demanding workload at Longborough) was a good idea! But I have seen pensioners who have successfully completed it - so I must keep up the training. I’m still at the gym twice a week, but the intended long run last weekend didn’t quite happen. Everything seemed to ache (and still does). My legs just didn’t want to propel me forwards over the planned 10 miles, so I revised the plan.

Instead, I decided to do hill training; consisting of a fast run up a steep hill and a gentle stroll back down. This is repeated several times and is supposed to increase the strength in my legs. It wasn't such a good plan! It was cold and drizzling and one of my neighbours even come out to ask if I knew what I was doing! I managed the hill a few times and then a gentle 3 mile jog. This was not one of my best training sessions.

This week is going to be better. The new plan is to work really hard in the gym all week, culminating in a half marathon run on Sunday. Wish me luck and don't be surprised if I look exhausted when you next see me!

I will be setting up my charity donation page for Chase in the next week or so. Your sponsorship will be much appreciated.
