More Marathon training

14 February 2011 (63 days to go)

Another week of training and less than nine weeks to go to the big day. I am beginning to get very anxious as to my abilities to compete the challenge. It is now a mental game as much as it is about physical endurance. I ran a half marathon distance on Sunday. It felt good! (I did it in 2 hours and 20 minutes and that's 15 minutes faster than my first attempt).

One of the best things about running is that I get to appreciate the lovely countryside in Sussex, where I live. It is great to have time to myself and put the world to rights (in my head) as I run along the country lanes. We all lead such busy lives and interact with so many people that I am enjoying time just for me. (Apart from the dozen or so other idiots who are also out running on a Sunday morning! It's amazing just how many people give up a Sunday morning in bed!)

For my last gym session I turned up 24 hours too early (must be my age) so I did extra time in the gym, which won't do me any harm, and had a lovely 60 length swim in the pool followed by a jacuzzi (as a treat). A few days ago I ran 3 miles as fast as I could; I don't think I will win any medals for speed! My next challenge is a 15-18 mile run. (I never thought I would get to the point when 6 miles would seem a short distance!)

I have now set up my just giving page:

Any donations for this charity will be much appreciated.
